Checking out the Monarch House Apartments

If you are strolling down the fashionable High Street Kensington, or Kensington High Street as it is officially called, you will almost certainly walk past it without even noticing it. Just like the beautiful century-old catholic church, Our Lady of Victories, that it shares a wall with, this modern serviced apartment block is one of Kensington's finest. Past the unassuming (secure-entry) doors, a little reception area complete with a pretty waterfall welcomes you to the Monarch House Apartments

Our team take a closer look as they stay for a night and experience what makes Monarch House such a popular place to call home in London.

Our group booked a three bedroom apartment with a balcony, a top request for some guests visiting the capital in the Summer.

Check-in Process

At Monarch House there is a 24 hour reception and they can be flexible with check-in times if this has been previously requested, which is very convenient. We arrived at 18:15 and parked the car in the underground secure car park where we were greeted by the receptionist.

The lovely gentleman took us to reception and kindly asked us to complete the Guest Registration Card. He then handed over the keys and instructions on how to reach our apartment. Having visited the property many times before for events and apartment show-arounds, we were already familiar with the building layout and did not need to be accompanied to the apartment, a service which all other guests can avail of.

Our three bedroom apartment was located on the 5th floor, which we needed to access by changing lifts on the 4th floor and crossing over a short corridor to the 5th floor.

Once inside, we got to inspect the apartment thoroughly. Everything was spotless. The housekeeping team really do a great job at making sure the apartments are well maintained.

We poured ourselves some drinks and got some music going.

Apartment facilities

The three bedroom apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living and dining area, a large balcony with 2 tables and chairs. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with a walk-in shower and for the third bedroom there is a separat bathroom with a bathtub and a shower over the bathtub. As a standard procedure the housekeeping team provide free toiletries, towels and fresh bed linen in all bedrooms.

The bedrooms are bright and have built-in wardrobes, an in-room safe, a hairdryer and air cooling system or portable air conditioning.

"After visiting Monarch House a few times I finally got the opportunity to spend a night in one of the apartments. I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 tables and chairs on the the balcony for guests to enjoy. It was also very convenient to have an en-suite attached to my bedroom with a wide walk in shower. " said Mariana, our partner relations executive.

In the living area there is a direct dial phone, a guest handbook with useful information, an extra large flat screen TV with freeview channels and Sky channels that could be ordered for an extra fee.

The fantastic dine-in kitchen had everything you needed to whip up a delicious meal, so our team decided they would cook up dinner together and test out the mod-cons. After a quick check of the cupboards, they put together a shopping list for Paella and headed to Waitrose, which is literally 5 steps from the main door.

Everyone chipped in, from cutting the vegetables, boiling up the rice, preparing the spices and getting the plates and glasses all set up on the dining table. What's more is that the kitchen was spacious enough for three of us to get on with our delegated cooking tasks simultaneously, not like a crampy kitchenette at all. Even crisp white table tissues were provided.

Then once our hunger was satisfied, we turned on the dishwasher and sat back on the comfy large sofas and turned the TV on. At night you could see the city's night lights from the balcony, which was quite nice.

Winding down for bed was easy enough with the luxurious beds and immaculate white bed linen. After a busy day helping people with their serviced apartments requirements, our team called it a night.

The next morning, the perfect cup of coffee and a fresh shower gave us the right start to the day.

Neighbourhood

The building is 5 minutes walking distance to Kensington High Street tube station and 13 minutes to Kensington Olympia tube station. We decided to drive to Monarch House as our office is in the same area and it was more convenient for us to get there by car. The free private car park which can be accessed by every guest., is a real bonus for this property.

Shopaholics? you will be spoilt for choice. Big brands and smaller boutiques line the main street from Marks & Spencer, Gap, Zara, Topshop, H&M, Boots, Argos, Oliver Bonas, Cos, Accessorize, TK Maxx and the huge organic supermarket WholeFoods. Need more? there are direct buses to Oxford Street for your added convenience.

Dining options are also aplenty, from the Lebanese delights of Maroosh, to the proper hamburgers of Byron, to the yummy Ramen of Bone Daddies and Wagamamas, or something more refined at Aubaine or Côte Brasserie. The stylish Roof Gardens are also located here offering a spectacular venue for a night out or a memorable dinner. You can also grab a coffee at one of the many coffee houses or enjoy a pastry on Kensington Church Street's Patisserie Valerie.

If you are a park-lover, pop over to Holland Park which is right opposite. You can stroll around and have a cup of tea at their Orangerie. Don’t be surprised if you find one, two or more peacocks around. A visit to the Kyoto Gardens is a must!

Then there's Notting Hill, for those fans of the actual movie. Notting Hill is a short 15 minute walk away with a large bookstore, eclectic cinemas, scores of vintage shops and quaint colourful Victorian houses. Make sure you visit the Portobello Road Market by midday and be amazed by the variety of antiques, handicrafts, fashion and fresh food on display. The perfect place to get a unique souvenir for someone special.

Check-out

Check-out involves the guest having to close the door of the apartment, take the lift down and to leave the key at reception. That’s what we did - super simple!

Verdict

This is a really great option for business or holiday guests, given its superb range of facilities, access to shops, convenient transport and excellent security. Endless entertainment for the whole family and similarly place to work for business travellers, it has it all.

Why stay anywhere else. If it's space and value you are after then this place has that and much more.
