Celebrating D-Day in London

This Friday 6th June 2014 marks the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy and there are numerous events taking place in London to celebrate the beginning of the end of World War II. There are a number of more sombre events taking place in remembrance of those who fought and lost their lives but we have chosen a few events that seek to celebrate the fight for freedom in a more light-hearted way. From a 1940s inspired Blitz Party in Waterloo Vaults to the chance to ride around Colindale in a military tank, there are plenty of options to choose from to celebrate D-Day in London and you may even learn something new!

Blitz Party at the Waterloo Vaults

If you fancy something a little different, the Waterloo Vaults have been transformed into an air raid shelter and are holding a Blitz Party on Saturday 7th June 2014 to celebrate D-Day complete with sandbags, searchlights and blackout curtains. The night's entertainment includes music inspired by the era, code breaking and clues as well as plenty of 40s style cocktails. Dress code is strictly 1940s glam but utility uniforms and allied military uniforms are welcome also. Pin up your victory curls and start learning the jitterbug for this celebration with a difference!
