Have a Cracking Easter 2014 in London!

From the 18th to the 21st of April, it's Easter Weekend in London! Not only does this mean that there's more chocolate lurking in the capital right now than you could possibly much through in a lifetime but Londoners also get the Monday off work meaning an extra long weekend of fun, food and (hopefully) sun.

Never one to miss an occasion to celebrate, London is offering a bank holiday weekend chock-a-block with fun activities and Easter-themed events. From where to buy that obligatory chocolate egg to the best places to take your kids on an Easter adventure, we give you the rundown of Easter events in London.

ACTIVITIES

  • Easter Egg Hunt at Kew Gardens
The 20th of April marks Kew's Easter Festival when the beautiful Kew Gardens will be teaming up with the Roald Dahl Museum to create an amazing program of events for children to enjoy. They can create their own Willy Wonka inspired chocolate bar, come up with crazy recipes in the Inventing Room and enjoy an Easter Egg hunt around the grounds which will be coming into flower for spring.

  • Ducklings at London Wetland Centre
Not only does the arrival of spring mean sunny weather and blooming flowers but also an abundance of baby ducklings! Venture over to London Wetland Centre to meet the downy ducklings and learn about their journey from egg to birth. After a fun biology lesson, children can decorate an egg or take part in some pond dipping.

  • Berwick Street Record Day
The Easter weekend is also home to The Berwick Street Record Store Day which takes place in Soho on the 19th April. The street is lined with the largest concentration of indie record shops in London making it the ideal place to stage a mini-festival to celebrate Record Store Day. There will be an outdoor stage with live acts, music quizzes, street food stalls and amazing discounts on clothes and design sessions.

  • Shakespeare's 450th Birthday
In honour of the famous bard's 450th birthday, Shakespeare's Globe is staging a grand birthday and Easter celebration rolled into one. Play pin the ruff on the Bard before decorating cakes, watching a traditional Punch and Judy show and finishing up by viewing an improvised performance on the Globe's famous stage.

SHOPPING

Easter wouldn't be complete without that all important egg! Luckily, London is home to a wealth of amazing chocolateries. For a luxurious boutique experience where chocolate is taken seriously, pay a visit to Artisan du Chocolat on Westbourne Grove or Paul A Young Fine Chocolates on Wardour Street, Soho. The latter has created a special adult's only treat especially for the occasion. The Golden Egg is milk chocolate shell filled with champagne ganache and served with an elegant eggcup and spoon. The renowned chocolate shop is also creating chocolate bunnies and hot cross bun truffles for the special day.

For a slightly less refined but more eccentric chocolate experience, head to Choccywoccydoodah on Fouberts Place, Soho. The art and design focused cafe and shop creates fantastical cakes and chocolate sculptures. Their special creations for this Easter include a Choccysaurus Rex sitting atop a huge chocolate egg!

EATING

  • Whyte and Brown
What could be more fitting at Easter than to dine at a restaurant dedicated to free-range eggs and chicken? Best of all, they're offering a jumbo Easter Egg and 3-course meal for two for whoever tweets them with the best chicken and egg puns!

  • The Feast of St George
Whilst St George's Day actually falls on 23rd April, the knight's feast day was originally staged two days before, this year falling on Easter Monday in London. In celebration of the event, Trafalgar Square is hosting an English farmers' market on which will come complete with mouth-watering hog roasts, pies and homemade cakes as well as live cooking demonstrations from famous chefs.
