Our Picks for New Years Eve 2013 in London

What with royal babies and this summer's heatwave, 2013 has been a jolly good year for London all round and what better way to celebrate than on the biggest night of the city's calendar. Clubs, bars, restaurants and event organisers have been busy bees gearing up for this New Year's Eve in London and it's very nearly time to sample the fruits of their labour.

Of course, if you're staying in one of our holiday apartments in London, you could just relax in the comfort of your living room and tune into BBC1 to watch the fireworks. However, if you want to see the best that London has to offer, you'll want to venture out onto the busy streets. Here's our round-up of the best New Years Eve ideas in London 2013 with a little something for clubbers, first-timers to the city and foodies alike.

The London fireworks New Year's Eve are famous around the world but this year they're set to be bigger, better and more impressive than ever before! Crowds of up to 250,000 people start gathering from around 9pm at the bridges and embankments near the London Eye where the fireworks are launched.

Wrap up warm, prepare for a LOT of people and wait for the countdown until Big Ben's famous bongs at midnight are followed by an impressive display of pyrotechnics set to a specially created soundtrack. As the world's first multi-sensory fireworks display, it's going to be the one for the history books with banana confetti and orange-flavoured bubbles floating down over the crowds! With South Bank, Big Ben, St Paul's and the London Eye as a backdrop, you couldn't get a more quintessentially London New Year Eve celebration for any city first-timers.

Take a look at the government website for further information about how to get there and what to expect.

For many, New Year's Eve means only one thing: the biggest party of the year. Luckily, London provides plenty of choice when it comes to New Year's Eye party ideas, whether you prefer upbeat house music at glitzy clubs or techno raves in warehouse spaces.

However, our favourite picks of the club nights on offer are the 1920s-style Cabaret Ball at Proud in Camden where you'll be entertained by fire breathers and aerial hoopists; the Dark Circus Party at The Grand Hall which will be just as risqué as the name suggests and the New year's Eve Clash event at Renaissance Rooms where hip-hop and R&B music will be combined with bouncy castles, face painting and roller discos!

What better time to indulge in some childhood nostalgia than at the end of another year? For an alternative New Year's Eve in London, head over to ping pong and cocktail bar, Bounce, to re-enact PE lessons of the past with free ping pong at their 17 tables all night long.
