Traditional Afternoon Tea at The Rubens Hotel

Afternoon tea is a traditional affair that many Londoners and London visitors are quite familiar with these days. Most hotel establishments around the capital offer an Afternoon Tea selection that are perfect as a treat for friends, loved ones or even a business meeting and some even jazz their menu with stylish themed cakes, gourmet bread and of course exclusive irresistible teas from around the world.
Check-in-London’s Tanielle, lover of all things traditional and tea related, recently headed over to the Rubens at the Palace Hotel in Victoria for the popular Rubens Traditional Afternoon Tea and came back very pleased with the whole experience.

“I truly enjoyed myself and think it is such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon specially if you also combine it with a visit to Buckingham Palace or the Royal Mews which is literally across the road. The staff warmly welcome you and guide you through the menu selection before they serve your tea and cakes in beautiful pink floral china.

The atmosphere is relaxing with a tint of sophisticated English charm and the windows face the Royal Mews and the passers-by of Buckingham Palace Road. Both the teas we tried were divine and came with silver tea strainers that added to the flavour (I think). The sandwiches were so good that we ordered another round and the scones were really fresh and went splendidly well with the smooth clotted cream."
Teas sampled:
Blackcurrant & Lavender & Silver Tips (Recently read an article that this Darjeeling tea is the most expensive tea in the world)
Sandwiches preferred:
Cucumber & cream cheese, smoked salmon, ham and mustard
Cakes appreciated:
Raisin scones, strawberry tartlet, chocolate and coffee mouse, swiss roll
The location is for business or leisure stays. There are plenty of local amenities, beautiful gardens, restaurants, retail shops, churches, theatres and the bustling Victoria Terminus that features numerous local, national and international connections by underground, national rail and coach. If you choose to stay in the area, you would be sharing a postcode with the Queen herself, so book a serviced apartment in Victoria and enjoy the very best that London has to offer.
