Lord Mayor's Show in London

Having marched through the streets every year for over 800 years, The Lord Mayor's Show is a long running London tradition where the new Lord Mayor of the City of London is dramatically welcomed into office.

Commencing at 11am, the three mile long Lord Mayor's Parade 2010 travels from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice. On reaching their destination, the new Lord Mayor takes an oath of allegiance to the Sovereign before the Lord Chief Justice and the judges of the Queen's Bench Division set off one the return leg of their journey from Victoria Embankment to Mansion House.

At five o'clock, the day reaches it climax with a grand fireworks display from a barge moored in the river Thames between Waterloo and Blackfriars bridges.

The parade features over 6000 people including 2000 servicemen and women, 220 vehicles, 71 floats, 13 marching bands, 21 carriages including the glorious State Coach and of course the giant figures of the City's guardians, Gog and Magog.

The State Coach and other officials pause at St Pauls for the Lord Mayor to receive a blessing, then while they take the oath of loyalty at the Royal Courts, the whole procession reforms near Victoria Embankment ready for the return journey to Mansion House, where the newly sworn-in Lord Mayor will be greeted by the City Aldermen and Livery Company Masters.

The Lord Mayor's Show is on 13th November 2010 and will start at 11am.

If you're visiting soon and want to book a Short Term Flats London close by to the Lord Mayor's Show 2010, speak to a customer advisor. Call us on +44 843 289 8820 or email us at info@check-in-london.com for rates and availability.

VAT Savings with Serviced Apartments

With the flexibility to stay for one night or many months, serviced apartments offer guests exceptional value with the convenience and privacy they want when living in the city. Serviced apartments give you the option of saving even more money as some are VAT EXEMPT. With others, the rate you pay per night falls significantly if you stay for over 28 nights. This is because during the first 28 days, VAT is charged at the standard rate on all charges, after that it is charged at the standard rate on 20% of the rental cost (Extras are always charged at the standard rate). This means great London accommodation savings for you and you get to enjoy your holiday in the comfort of your own stylish city apartment.

VAT Rises

The UK Chancellor George Osborne's 2.5% VAT rise from 17.5% to 20% promises a better economic balance for Britain's books, but consumers, both local and international are just not convinced it will do any good. Some believe it might drive foreign investors away, and that won’t certainly help the economy while others believe it was inevitable in one way or another.

Even though the vat increase is likely to adversely affect the UK tourism industry as a whole, the countdown to the Olympics has seen no sign of slowing tourist numbers anywhere on the horizon. London has always been one of the main holiday destinations in the world and no VAT increase is going to deter tourists in any way.

We anticipate travellers visiting the UK, will not greatly feel the pinch as there are a number of ways to BEAT the VAT rise. Free tourists attractions can provide great value days out and venues like the National Gallery and British Museum will definitely see an increase in overseas visitors as well as British Tourists once the rate rise does come into effect. There are also a lot of free events going on, bustling street markets, open air performances, breathtaking green spaces, and cheap eats around town that are sure to suit all ages and budgets.

Serviced Apartments Savings

But how can you save when it comes to accommodation? Since the event of the economic downturn, hotel apartments London have been gaining popularity over Hotel rooms as they offer more spacious living areas, cost-effective self catering facilities with the luxuries of a hotel. Corporate companies have been forced to take on this concept as their travel budgets have been slashed but leisure travellers and those looking for relocation options have long been using serviced apartments as their holiday home away from home.

Serviced apartments are ideal for long stays, short stays and holiday breaks offering accommodation for up to 8 people in studios, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments. All the apartments are fully furnished with contemporary furnishings and feature self catering facilities giving you the option to eat-in if you like. They are also fitted with modern amenities and home comforts like broadband and entertainment systems and offer daily or weekly maid service to ensure your apartment is a clean and comfortable living space to relax in.

So the next time you visit, try a London Serviced Apartments for great savings on London accommodation!

If you're visiting soon and want to book a London serviced apartment where you benefit from VAT savings, speak to a customer advisor. Call us on +44 843 289 8820 or email us at info@check-in-london.com for rates and availability.
