The Royal Opera House

Covent Garden is one of London's busiest and central neighbourhoods, bustling with shops, eateries, open-air entertainment and popular attractions. It is also a very desirable address for short stays in London and our Covent Garden serviced apartments would be an ideal base for exploring the area further. But one of its highly visited gems is the Royal Opera House which not only happens to be a stunning building but also plays host to numerous ballet and opera performances throughout the year.

London's Royal Opera House is the home of the Royal Ballet who have performed much-loved classics like 'The Sleeping Beauty', 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Hansel and Gretel'. Many other famous productions including 'Swan Lake' and 'The Nutcracker' also make regular appearances and attract thousands of people from around the world. Set up by the choreographer and dancer, Dame Ninette de Valois in 1931, the Royal Ballet was granted 'royal' status by the Royal Charter in 1956 on it's 25th anniversary.

When the Royal Opera House reopened after the Second World War, 'The Sleeping Beauty' by the Royal Ballet was the first performance and it was also performed by the Royal Ballet on its very first tour of America.

In addition to many stunning ballet performances by the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera House also plays host to many spine-tingling opera performances. Classics such as Carmen, Manon and Giselle are performed regularly. If you want a more sophisticated cultural experience on your trip to London, the the Royal Opera House is the place to go.
